Hamstrings and Quadriceps exercise : Flexion and extension of knee
Here is a list of knee exercises which can be used to strengthen the joint and surrounding muscles, either following an injury, or in order to prevent an injury occurring. Common knee injuries include a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament ( ACL), MCL sprain, Meniscus tear and Patellofemoral pain.
All of the exercises shown here work the muscles the knee joint, mainly the quadriceps and hamstrings, but also the groin and calf muscles. The exercises start off easy with those that are more suitable in the early stages of injury and gradually progress to more challenging exercises.
All knee exercises should be performed slowly and under complete control. Always start on a low weight or resistance and gradually increase this over a number of sessions. The number of repetitions of the exercise you perform can also be increased. If there is any pain in the knee then stop immediately, although it is not unusual to feel some minor discomfort and aching when starting to strengthen the knee after injury.
